Morrison gets £48.5m flood alleviation job

24 Feb 11 Morrison Construction has been awarded a £48.5m flood alleviation contract by The Moray Council in northern Scotland.

The work is part of an £86m council project to upgrade flood defences at Elgin, which is itself part of the wider £160m Moray Flood Alleviation scheme combining the expertise of The Moray Council, Royal Haskoning, Morrison and EC Harris to solve flooding issues in Moray.

The work will alleviate flooding in Elgin by recreating the flood plain and constructing flood defences. The project involves creating a sustainable flood corridor along the River Lossie and relieving constrictions to water flow, enabling high flows of water to be conveyed safely through the town through the use of a combination of embankments, walls and lowered floodplains.

The contract is due to start on 4 April 2011, with completion in 2015.

Greg Fitzgerald, chief executive of Morrison’s parent company Galliford Try, said: "We are delighted to strengthen our relationship with The Moray Council by securing this important contract to deliver a fourth scheme through ourexisting construction partnering arrangement."
