Steve Murphy, who has been acting regional secretary of Ucatt’s Yorkshire region since March 2010, formally took over the role on 1 June.
Previously he was regional secretary for the Midlands since 2004.
Mr Murphy said: “I am delighted to be taking on a new challenge in Yorkshire. The challenges faced by construction workers in Yorkshire are as great as in any other part of the country. My first priority will be to ensure that construction workers in the region know that Ucatt is there to represent them and to ensure that they are not exploited by unscrupulous bosses.”
