Nakheel prepares to tender 11km Dubai boardwalk

16 Jan 14 Developer Nakheel has named Halcrow as the design consultant for an 11km boardwalk in Dubai and said that it expects to start tendering for the construction in the second quarter of this year.

The Palm Jumeirah Boardwalk will run the entire length of the island's 11km protective crescent. It is designed to transform the crescent into a destination for walking, shopping and dining, and create a new focus for the world-famous island. The project will cover the whole of the existing crescent and there will be a 100m pier stretching into the Arabian Gulf at both ends.

Nakheel will create The Boardwalk by building over the rocks of the Palm’s breakwater. The Boardwalk will be 6m wide – more than double the width of the existing crescent path – with more than 20 concessions offering refreshments and souvenirs along the 11km length.

The piers will offer views of the Arabian Gulf, Palm Jumeirah and the Dubai skyline and feature a range of glass-encased cafes and restaurants.
