NCC to build £29.5m of eco buildings for ABB

20 May 11 NCC Construction Sweden has been commissioned to buiild a new workshop and offices for ABB in Ludvika, Sweden, for SEK 300m (£29.5m).

The buildings are intended to achieve the gold level under the LEED international environmental classification system, which includes materials, energy consumption and indoor climate.

The workshop and offices are part of ABB’s High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) works and the 20,000m2 project will house slightly more than 800 employees.

“ABB set high environmental demands and NCC had the right competency to offer excellent environmental solutions,” said Bo Karlsson, business manager at NCC Construction, Stockholm/Mälardalen Region.“The new premises will provide the perfect background for ABB’s future HVDC technology and expansion in the field of power transmission. In cooperation with NCC, we will now build eco-adapted office and production premises in which we will gather all HVDC’s employees in Ludvika under one roof,” said Lars Åkerstedt, head of ABB’s property department.

The project is scheduled to start shortly and will be completed in October 2012.
