NCC to build Facebook data centre

27 Oct 11 Facebook has picked NCC Construction Sweden has to build a SEK800m (£76m) data centre in Luleå, Sweden.

The contract has been signed with Pinnacle Sweden and is for the first of three data centres planned for the area. The project will be implemented in a joint venture between NCC and two US construction companies, DPR Construction and Fortis Construction.

The centre’s will be approximately 28,000m2. Facebook has imposed stringent energy-classification requirements and the data centre will be certified in accordance with LEED’s gold level certification.

“The building will require considerable energy so the client has imposed rigorous environmental-classification requirements, requesting the gold level, which is LEED’s second highest rating,” said NCC Construction Sweden northern region department manager Mats Eklund. “We will be using Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) methods throughout the project.”

Completion is scheduled for December 2012 and the project will engage approximately 300 employees.
