New chairman for Barratt

11 Mar 14 House-builder Barratt Developments has found a successor to take over from Bob Lawson as chairman in November.

John Allan will join the board on 1 August 2014 as a non-executive director and take over as chairman after the company's annual general meeting on 12 November 2014.

Bob Lawson, who has been chairman since July 2008, will retire from the board at the same time.

John Allan is chairman of Dixons Retail and a non-executive director of Royal Mail. Previously, he was chief executive of Exel for 11 years. Following its acquisition by Deutsche Post, he became chief financial officer. He has also been on the boards of Samsonite, BET, PHS Group, ISS, National Grid, Wolseley, Hamleys, 3i and Connell.

His early career was with Lever Brothers, Bristol-Myers Company and Fine Fare.

John Allan said: "I am delighted to be joining the board of the country's leading housebuilder. The company's recent performance has been very strong and I look forward to leading the board and supporting the management team in developing the company's strategy and performance still further."
