The Stage IIIB-compliant DL550-3 has replaced a previous generation Doosan DL500 wheeled loader and joins Doosan DX380LC and DX225LC crawler excavators that Camden purchased in 2010.

The DL550-3 is powered by the 13-litre Scania DC13 SCR 6-cylinder diesel engine, delivering a maximum power output of 283kW at 1800rpm.

The 31.5-tonne machine, the biggest of Doosan's wheeled loaders, was first seen at the Hillhead trade show last year.

The high engine power output is combined with new ZF transmissions and several other features that reduce fuel consumption and improve performance. New kinematics and a larger cylinder on the lift arm have allowed the main pressure in the front hydraulic system to be increased by up to 70 bar, with a corresponding increase in breakout and lifting forces of up to 5%.  The lift arm has also been strengthened with 10% thicker metal in the arm and the tilt lever.

The core business of Camden Plant is recycling construction and demolition waste. It also supplies primary aggregates and topsoil. It started life as a plant hire company in Camden before relocating to Chingford 20 years ago.

Camden Plant general manager Alan McNamara said: “The increased loading capabilities of the DL550-3 wheeled loader have proved very advantageous, allowing us to load lorries in just two passes rather than the three that are necessary with the smaller loaders conventionally used for this application.  This has greatly increased the turnaround on lorries which is a key feature for our business especially when we may have 40 or so lorries queuing to be loaded.”
