Due for completion by September 2011, the contract involves refurbishment of the existing sports facility to create an athlete assessment area, comprising consultation rooms, an analytical laboratory, a Pilates reformer space and three physiotherapy suites.
A steel frame extension will be used to house £200,000 worth of specialist athlete performance assessment equipment provided by sportscotland, including a £100,000 start-of-the-art treadmill.
The new facility will be shared by 600 high performance athletes, part of the sportscotland institute of sport network and the University’s 80 sports scholars. Governing bodies and clubs not currently serviced by sportscotland institute of sport will also be able to access the facilities and the local community will benefit from accessing the physiotherapy services on offer.
Clark Contracts secured the contract, through an open competitive tender and the centre will remain open to elite athletes whilst re-development takes place.
