Launched last year, this 220-tonne capacity crane joins a fleet of Terex cranes operated by NMT ranging from the 30-tonne City Class crane to the 350-tonne AC 350 all-terrain.

NMT has also ordered a pair of 40-tonne Terex AC 40/2L all-terrain cranes, which will be delivered to its new Heathrow depot that has just opened in January 2014.

The new Terex Explorer 5800 replaces a long serving Terex AC 200-1 in NMT’s fleet.

Managing director Mark Ambridge said: “As a long standing Terex customer, we are delighted to be the first hire company to take advantage of this brand new Terex crane. For the benefit of our customers, it’s important that the NMT fleet reflects the latest and best in crane technology, and there is no doubt that the new Explorer crane model is at the forefront of these developments.

“The feedback we’ve had so far suggests it’s smooth and easy to operate with impressive lifting capabilities. Its versatility is also starting to impress.”

NMT’s new crane has a five-axle, all-wheel steer carrier that is 13.2m long and 3m wide, with 10 x 8 x 10 drive/steer. The five-section telescopic boom extends to 70m.

The Explorer 5800 will soon be in action at London’s Tilbury Docks where it will lift a 93-tonne dock crane in tandem with a Terex AC 250-1 all-terrain crane.
