Last week May Gurney said it had started a formal appeal process against the council’s decision not to even let it bid for the contract, which is due to start in April 2014. But the council is refusing to reconsider.
Today the contractor, currently the subject of a takeover battle with Costain and Kier both seeking to buy it, announced: “May Gurney has been notified by Norfolk County Council that the company's formal appeal against the decision not to select it for the short list in relation to the re-bid of the council's highway and related services procurement contract A has been rejected.
“Whilst disappointed, May Gurney remains fully committed to continuing to deliver a quality service under the terms of the current contract.”
The contract to manage Norfolk's 9.800km of roads is likely to be worth up to £65m a year.
