North Midland increases profits despite loss in building division

18 May 11 North Midland Construction has reported that its first quarter profit before tax increased by 10.6% to £0.62m compared with the same period last year, despite a £0.25m loss in the building division.

Group revenue increased by 34% to £51m.

It has a secured workload of approximately £152m that it expects to complete within the current financial year.

All of the construction divisions within the PLC are trading profitably, with particular progress in the highways division. The Nomenca subsidiary has also advanced with profit up to £0.26m from £0.1m on a revenue of £15.4m.

However, the building subsidiary generated a loss of £0.25m as a result of significant delays on its major project.  Reimbursement is being sought through a significant claim, the result of which is yet to be determined.  There is a major requirement for the subsidiary to secure workload, but the market is very depressed and extremely competitive, according to North Midland Construction.
