Plant managers from North Midland were among the first to arrive at the Vertikal Days trade show at Haydock Park this week when the gates opened on Wednesday morning, and within an hour had agreed a deal with Link-Belt distributor NRC to purchase the machine that was on display.

NRC managing director Rod Abbot said that the US-made crane was now being transported to the customer today to be put to immediate use.

The TCC 750 is rated at 70 tonnes capacity (75 US tons) and has a maximum boom length of 35m. It also has a 17.7m fly jib. The crane is powered by a 186kW Caterpillar engine. Maximum line pull is 7656kg.

Traditionally – except in the mini crane class – telescopic boom cranes are generally on wheeled chassis and crawler cranes have always had lattice (or strut) booms. However, in recent years the hybrid telescopic boom crawler crane has grown in popularity among civil engineering contractors, where their fast set-up time, off-road capability and ability to crawl beneath structures with the boom retracted have proved valuable on certain types of jobs, such as road widening and bridge works.
