Ocon reaches new heights at Piccadilly Gate

10 Jan 11 Ocon Construction has added to the list of structural landmarks in Manchester after installing the city’s longest escalator as part of the firm’s £27 million Piccadilly Gate project.

The 30 metre long escalator serves all ten storeys of the refurbished office building, which is situated in a prime location adjacent to Manchester’s Piccadilly railway station. The record-breaking escalator is just one aspect of the refurbishment scheme which saw Ocon completely strip back the building to its concrete frame before completing cat A and B fit outs to create high calibre contemporary offices.  The completed scheme is now home to a number of Government offices.

Comments Andrew Barker, Managing Director of Ocon Construction: “Piccadilly Gate is, in itself, a landmark building, thanks both to the high profile tenants now based there and to the quality and location of the development.  The escalator is one of the most striking features of the building and we’re delighted to have been involved in such a prestigious project right on our own doorstep.”
