Odebrecht consortium wins Dominican Republic structures contract

5 Apr 11 A consortium of Odebrecht Latin America & Angola and Estrella has signed a US$255m contract to build new highway structures for the city of Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic.

Norte Sul Consortium’s contract with the Ministry Of Public Works & Communications is due for completion in 32 months. The companies expect to generate 3,500 direct and indirect job opportunities during the construction period.

Work on the Norte-Sul Corridor project will involve construction of eight structures, including five tunnels, along a total length of 6.2km.

Odebrecht Latin America & Angola has been operating in the Dominican Republic for over eight years and is also responsible, together with Estrella, for construction work along the Duarte Corridor in Santo Domingo. The scheme includes nine highway projects that connect the city in the east-west direction and will facilitate the commute of one million vehicles per day.

These projects will produce significant savings in fuel, thanks to better traffic flow, and will also increase driver safety, according to the ministry’s Víctor Díaz. “We should pay off the two developments in five years,” he said.
