Official stats show massive first quarter fall for construction orders

3 Jun 11 The volume of new construction orders fell by 23% in the first quarter of 2011, compared with the fourth quarter of 2010, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Compared to the first quarter of 2010, total new construction orders were down by 18%.

The numbers are likely to be challenged by industry organisations who believe that construction is now beginning to recover, albeit slowly and with difficulty.
