Osborne starts new affordable housing development on Wembley Market site

10 Jun 11 Family-owned construction, civil engineering and property services company Osborne has started work on a £2.2m project to transform the former covered market site in Wembley, North London, into a new affordable housing development.

The development comprises one L-shaped building with 21 residential units, a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom flats, all for affordable housing. The building will be a mix of heights with sections of two, three and four storeys. On the ground floor there is a communal courtyard which has a mix of lawn, pathways and a play space. The development will be car free and there is provision for cycle storage on the ground floor.

The scheme, designed by Architect John Thompson & Partners is at the corner of Lancelot Road and Turton Road in Wembley on the site of the former Wembley Market. Osborne was appointed to build the new homes by housing association, L&Q.

Jason Glue, Business Unit Leader of Osborne’s Homes Sector said:  “The development combines affordability with high standards of design and sustainability and will transform a dismal and derelict site into 21 much needed, modern and efficient homes.”

Work is expected to be completed in April 2012.
