Osborne to create more affordable housing for Horsham

13 Jun 11 Family-owned construction firm Osborne has been appointed to turn former office buildings in Horsham, West Sussex into 63 new homes for Southern Housing Group Ltd.

This has been made possible with investment from the Homes and Communities Agency, Horsham District Council and, of course, Southern Housing Group itself.

The £5.2 million ‘Bridge House/Denne Parade’ Contract will provide 33 flats for social rent, 16 flats for shared ownership and 14 flats for private purchase across five blocks on two slightly separated sites.

The homes will be built to the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3. Two new homes for wheelchair users will be provided on the ground floor, car parking will be located in rear courtyards and cycle parking will also be provided. Safety measures include internal and external lighting, while the entrance to the blocks will be controlled by entry phones.

Located on East Street and Denne Parade, close to the town centre, the new homes will be less than a kilometre from the railway station and near to Horsham Park, a swimming pool and theatre.

Southern Housing Group Development Director Dale Meredith said: “Southern Housing Group is delighted to be providing another affordable housing scheme in Horsham town centre. The new homes are the result of long term investment in the area by locally based Southern Housing Group. The flats are built to high sustainability standards and are located close to key local facilities, making them ideal for both couples and families. “

Jason Glue, Business Unit Leader of Osborne’s Homes Sector said:

“We are pleased to be involved in turning these under-used spaces into much needed housing. Horsham, like most towns in the South East, is in need of more affordable homes and this project will make a valuable contribution to the objective of increasing supply while sitting well alongside the other housing on the road.”

Construction will begin in July 2011 and is expected to be completed by spring 2013.
