The first phase is for 229 homes, as well as landscaping that will see a children’s play area and park created, and the River Arrow, in culvert since the 1930s, opened up.
St Modwen is already working on the infrastructure for the development and Persimmon Homes will begin constructing the houses this month.
Richard Hickman, planning manager for St Modwen, said: “This new residential development of family homes will provide much needed new housing which will integrate with the established Cofton Hackett community.
The development is part of St Modwen’s wider £1bn regeneration of the former Longbridge car plant.
David McGing, land director for Persimmon Homes South Midlands, said that the first homes should be ready for sale in April.
Bromsgrove District Council’s planning committee has resolved to grant planning permission to deliver up to 725 new homes across the whole Longbridge East, with future plans for a new 4,500 sq ft community centre.
St Modwen and Persimmon Homes have formed a joint venture to develop an initial 2,000 homes on eight sites owned by St Modwen across the UK, including Longbridge East.
Currently under construction, the opening of Longbridge town centre will bring investment at the former MG Rover site up to £250m since it was acquired by St Modwen in 2003.
