Plasma Clean Xtract 1100 helps building owners clear the air

24 Jun 11 Intense ioniser sits outside commercial ventilation system and provides affordable odour control

Plasma Clean, developers of air purification systems, has launched Xtract 1100, a low power, cost effective, intense ionisation unit that is used to treat odour emissions and airborne infections present inside commercial Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems common in public and private buildings.

The first Xtract 1100 installation is already underway in London as part of a building services and facilities management contract.

Designed to be retrofitted to the outside of existing HVAC ductwork, the Xtract 1100 is more affordable and far easier to maintain than the ionisation modules now integrated within some high-end HVAC units and those which sit inside ventilation systems, attracting dust and other particulates.

The Xtract 1100 is lightweight and compact so that it fits easily outside of the main HVAC system where space is often at a premium or where there is little load-bearing capacity. The units work using plasma ionisation technology, originally developed by scientists from the University of Manchester’s chemistry department, to create high levels of charged ions which are then injected into the ventilation ductwork where they disperse.

The ionised air attacks stubborn odours, helping to sanitise the system by removing micro-organisms, such as mold, fungus, bacteria and viruses, before making its way into the general building envelope, creating a fresher living or working environment.

David Glover, managing director, Plasma Clean said: “Demand for air purification products that use plasma technology is growing rapidly because of their relative affordability and low environmental impact.

“This demand is great news for Plasma Clean as we remain focused on developing innovative plasma-based products like the Xtract 1100 that help our customers meet their regulatory requirements, and add value to our growing network of distributors.”

The first Xtract 1100 installation has been retrofitted to a customer’s existing ventilation systems in order to deal with escaping drain odours affecting the public spaces at the site.

The Xtract 1100 is on sale now and is available direct from Plasma Clean and its network of national and international distributors.
