With the Tithebarn shopping development set to transform retail in the city, the council is now turning its attention to the need for improved up-to-date office space.
Encouraging people to give their views, Councillor Neil Cartwright, cabinet member for development, said: We need to maximise Preston’s potential as a great place to do business and invest. Preston is ideally located with excellent transport and communication links as well as a highly skilled workforce with access to high calibre graduates from the University of Central Lancashire.
“At the moment, there isn’t enough quality business and office accommodation in the city centre and the Central Business District aims to address this.
“There is strong interest from developers in the Central Business District but we need to get the planning framework right so that the area around Corporation Street, Ringway and Fishergate can develop in the right way for business and in the right way for Preston.”
The council’s draft planning document for the new Central Business District is available at www.preston.gov.uk/newcbd
Comments are requested by 9 March 2011. The council will submit a final supplementary planning document to its cabinet in April.
