Prothero takes charge at Gleeson

3 Jan 23 The new year starts at MJ Gleeson with a new management team at the helm.

After 47 years as a director and 28 years as chairman, Dermot Gleeson retired from the board of house-builder MJ Gleeson on 31st December 2022.

MJ Gleeson chief executive James Thomson replaced his as chairman on 1st January 2023 and on the same day former Vistry chief operating officer Graham Prothero joined the board as chief executive.

Graham Prothero joined the construction industry in 2013 as finance director of Galliford Try. He became chief executive of Galliford Try’s house-building business in 2019 until it was acquired by Bovis in 2020. He then became chief operating officer of the newly formed Vistry.

Dermot Gleeson, great nephew of company founder Michael Gleeson, joined the board in 1975 at the aged of 25, became chief executive in 1988 and executive chairman in 1994.

A Cambridge graduate, he started his career in the Conservative Party’s research department.
