Ramboll acquires Finnish company

31 Jan 12 Ramboll has become the largest engineering consultancy in northern Finland following the acquisition of transport planning specialist Liidea.

Liidea was founded in 2001 and specialises in transport planning, traffic engineering and traffic safety for a range of regional and national organisations. The company has worked internationally on projects in Scandinavia and the Barents region and provided services regarding traffic modelling, functionality, and safety in Russian cities including Murmansk, St Petersburg and Arkhangelsk.

"The planning of urban environments is increasingly determined by integrating the needs of businesses, residents, and transportation,” said Jarkko Niittymäki, director for transport for Ramboll in Finland. “it is therefore essential that we can provide customers with a comprehensive service portfolio, and the acquisition of Liidea helps achieve this by further strengthening our multidisciplinary offering."

One of Liidea's landmark projects involves the provision of traffic control specialist services in Northern Ostrobothnia and the city of Oulu over a five year period with responsibility for planning traffic lights and traffic guidance. This project has helped to develop a working method that saves resources and establishes common practices for traffic control.
