A new Volvo L60F and L90F join an existing fleet of  12 Volvo loading shovels and excavators.

Director Mark Isaac said: “We’ve been associated with Volvo equipment for more than 25 years. In our opinion the quality of build and overall performance coupled with excellent residual values are reasons why we choose Volvo.”

The smaller L60F is working at a newly acquired transfer and recycling station at Casbrook Park on the outskirts of Romsey. The site handles local commercial and demolition waste and plans to install a bespoke mechanical sorting plant in the near future. The L60F has been fitted with 20.5x25 SG Revolutions solid wheel and tyre assemblies, a Groenveld automatic greasing system, reversible fan, dust buster and a 2m³ rehandling bucket. A fork frame and tines has also been provided which is easily interchangeable thanks to the Volvo quick attachment bracket.

The new L90F is at the company’s Lee Lane quarry site in Nursling, handling incoming material for recycling and loading out crushed recycled aggregate. Its arrival also coincides with a new concrete batching venture undertaken by Raymond Brown Minerals & Recycling that started up in December.

“We needed the versatility of the L90F to be able to load out both our own fleet of road going tippers and high sided bulkers and to be able to work easily in the product bays as well as feed the new volumetric mixer,” said Mr Isaac.

The new batching plant produces concrete and screed for the local market and specialises in producing retaining wall blocks. To provided maximum flexibility the L90F has been supplied with a standard 2.7m³ rehandling bucket and a heavy duty Ulrich 1.8m³ hi tip bucket designed to handle material up to 1.8 tonnes per cubic metre. And as with the L60F, the machine also benefits from the addition of a reversible fan, dust buster, automatic greasing and a Prolec weighing system.

The L60F & L90F are powered by Tier III 6 litre Volvo engine developing 155 and 174 hp respectively at just 1700rpm. The Tier III/Stage 3 low emission engine delivers high torque at just above tick over, giving the machine excellent rimpull and low fuel consumption as well as significantly low noise levels. Much effort has been expended to increase mid-range torque; giving better operability in the most economic engine speed range. One practical consequence of this increase in horsepower is better pile penetration and fuller buckets.

Raymond Brown Minerals & Recycling is part of the Raymond Brown Group which underwent a management buyout in February 2010 with the existing team within the group taking on the interests of the business with the support of the exiting shareholders.
