Real Madrid and the government of Ras al-Khaimah presented the Real Madrid Resort Island scheme at an event in Madrid. The move is seen as a strategic to enhance the strength of the club in the Middle East and Asia.
Real Madrid Resort Island will be built on an artificial island and combine tourist facilities and sport. It will contain a theme park, a stadium open to the sea, a Real Madrid museum, numerous sports facilities, a residencial area and luxury hotels. It is expected to open in January 2015.
“Real Madrid and the Government of Ras Al Khaimah want to transmit the passion of Real Madrid and what it means throughout the world," said club president Florentino Perez.
When the Real Madrid Resort Island opens its gates, visitors will become part of the legend of this club, he said. “Real Madrid Resort Island will be a sports touristic complex of the highest level, covering 50ha in which tourism and sport will seduce millions of people in search of a quality leisurely activities."
