Richard Hall sticks with Volvo

3 Jan 13 Reading contractor Richard Hall has bought a new EC55C compact excavator as part of a drive to standardise its plant fleet with Volvo machinery.

The new machine, supplied by SM Plant Sales, replaces an EC55B model. It joins a 14-tonne Volvo EC140C purchased at the beginning of 2012 complete with a dozer blade, as well as an older EC140BLC, an ECR88 compact excavator and a DD24 tandem roller bought in 2010.

Richard Hall also operates two Volvo road lorries, one being a new FMX purchased in 2011.

“I started out in 1999 as a groundworks contractor,” said proprietor Richard Hall. “Since then we’ve become a limited company and have developed the business to specialise in tree and land clearance and heath land regeneration.

“We have been associated with Volvo from the outset and the machines we operate have proved very reliable. Coupled with that, the aftersales service from Volvo’s support centre at Horsham and from SM Plant has been excellent and we have an equally excellent relationship with Volvo’s Financial Services team.”

He added: “We started out with the EC55B, which clocked up nearly 6,000 hours with very little going wrong with it, but took the decision to replace it and keep the fleet fresh.”

The EC55C will be deployed working in a team with the DD24 roller and a 6-tonne swivel dumptruck on groundworks contracts specialising in the construction of horse arenas and farm buildings.
