Rio Olympics picks Arcadis team

11 Mar 13 The Brazilian subsidiary of Arcadis has been picked by RioUrbe and Empresa Olímpica Municipal (EOM) to carry out project and construction management for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The project covers 75ha including the Olympic Village and a total of 34 competition venues. These include tennis courts, swimming pools and a velodrome. Other aspects of the project include the development of support facilities such as an energy centre and a sewage treatment plant.

Arcadis Logos will provide time and cost planning, technical support, construction supervision and quality control, among other services. At the peak of construction activities - to be reached in mid-2013 - 60 professionals from the consortium team will be on side.

"We are intent on making the Rio 2016 Olympic Games a memorable event and we are extremely proud to once again act as a key player in delivering another important milestone in the Brazilian infrastructure legacy,” said Arcadis Logos CEO Manoel Antonio Avelino. “This assignment follows on our successful performance in projects related to other upcoming major sports events, like the programme management for the 2014 World Cup soccer arenas and our work related to doubling the capacity at Guarulhos Airport. Being part of the 'Olympic team' is a great challenge and honour.”
