Robinson reports strong start to 2011

27 May 11 Structural steelwork specialist Robinson said that it has made a strong start to 2011 despite difficult trading conditions.

Over the past four months, the Derby-based company has secured new contracts totalling £12.5m through its Robinson Agriculture and Robinson Steel Structures divisions.

Key wins for Robinson Steel Structures include a £4m contract for Bowmer & Kirkland to deliver the steelwork structure for a 10,000m2 Tesco store it is building in Sheffield; and a circa £1m contract to deliver the steelwork for the new building that will house the Co-operative Academy at Brownhills, Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent.

Robinson Agriculture, which makes steel-fabricated agricultural buildings, has secured contracts including a £220,000 new hay barn and storage complex in North Lincolnshire and a £215,000 contract for a grain store in Cambridgeshire.

“Despite the downturn affecting the construction industry, we continue to win work from clients requiring high-quality buildings delivered on time and on budget,” said Robinson managing director Mike Newton. “We are able to offer significant project capability in the delivery of complex, steel fabricated buildings, with a full range of specialist services including end-to-end project delivery and planning assistance.”

Robinson has an annual turnover of approximately £28m, producing around 17,000 tonnes of fabricated steel annually.

Current projects include Birmingham University's Bramall Building concert hall, which is being built by BAM Construction. Image above courtesy of New Steel Construction.
