Rockwool, manufacturer of non-combustible stone wool insulation, has been named as the joint winner of the 2011 Golden Stack Awards by The Source Testing Association (STA).
The prestigious award is given every two years to those companies making the most efforts to improve safety, welfare and comfort of stack testers who conduct testing and measurements on chimney stacks and monitor their emissions.
Stack testing involves working outside in, at times, hazardous conditions at significant heights and the STA launched the awards as part of a drive to improve conditions in the field.
Rockwool was recognised by STA members through the award for a number of innovations it has introduced at the Line 3 stack at its Bridgend manufacturing plant in South Wales.
Innovations have included the installation of a the sampling platform to allow stack testers to safely and more easily take emissions samples from the chimney, and improved walkways and ladder systems to improve access to the stack.
The Award ceremony forms part of a two day Environment Agency’s Monitoring Certification Scheme (MCERTs) conference and exhibition being held on 30th March 2011.
