Rockwool opens new factory in India

18 May 11 Rockwool has opened a new production facility in the Gujarat province in India.

The new €22.7m (£20m) factory is located in Dahej on the West coast of the Gujarat State and has the capacity to produce 30,000 tonnes of Rockwool insulation products per year. When in full production, the factory will employ up to 200 people. It was inaugurated by Shri Narenda Modi, chief minister of Gujarat.

The facility’s main purpose is to supply the manufacturing industry in India and some neighbouring countries with insulation products for technical installations, such as hot pipes, boilers and tanks.

“Our initial focus will be on supplying advanced technical heat insulation solutions for the process manufacturing industry which is growing rapidly in the region,” said Rockwool Group CEO Eelco van Heel. “The second big market being explored is for the insulation of commercial premises and residential properties.  As the majority of India experiences extremely humid and hot weather, a large proportion of the country’s energy consumption is accounted for by air conditioning units.  Through the extensive application of insulation, buildings can be cooled more efficiently, lowering energy bills and dramatically reducing carbon emissions.”
