Rogue builder jailed

3 Jan 12 A rogue builder has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for ripping off domestic customers to the tune of more than £500,000.

Ronald Wright, aged 53, admitted 16 charges of obtaining work by deception. Mr Wright, of Oak Crescent, Leamore, Walsall, also admitted using false references and two charges of attempting to obtain money by deception.

The offences happened between 1999 and 2006.  He was a sole trader operating as RW Builders across the West Midlands.

Mr Wright repeatedly left customers with jobs incomplete or defective after getting payment upfront. He also charged VAT despite not being VAT registered.

The sentence was handed down at Warwick Crown Court.
