Role for Grontmij on Eiffel Tower revamp

10 Jan 12 Grontmij’s French subsidiary Ginger has been selected to work on the redevelopment of the first floor of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.

The project is for SETE, the Eiffel Tower operating company, and is worth £16.5m (€20m). The contract value for Grontmij is close to €1m (£820,000) for a period of between six and eight months.

Grontmij will be responsible for technical studies for the structure, façades, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electricity and the high and low voltage power supply, as well as the environmental aspects of the project and the supervision of works. It will work with a consortium led by Vinci subsidiary Bateg.

SETE aims to transform the tower’s first floor - currently little more than an intermediate stop for visitors - into a feature in its own right. The redevelopment include shops, information points, a restaurant and a glass floor that will span the area. The project also includes the construction of three new pavilions, built in glass to ensure maximum visibility.
