Samsung C&T became the preferred partner after international competition with 26 other bidders. It had already won the Lusail bridges project in November of 2011.
Lusail Real Estate Development awarded the contract for primary infrastructure at the Lusail City development site, which is located 22km north of Qatar’s capital, Doha. Samsung C&T will build 10.7km road, including a 1.5km underground motorway, to serve as a centerpiece of the city’s transportation system. The project will take 30 months to complete.
Samsung C&T said tha intends be active in penetrating the Qatar market as Qatar is expected to spend US$80 to US$100 billion over the next five years to prepare and deliver the infrastructure needed to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
