The 18km immersed tunnel will carry road and rail traffic between Germany and Denmark. Four notices published this week cover the north and south tunnel contracts, dredging, and the portals, ramps and land works.
The contracts are being advertised by Femern, which has been mandated by the two governments to carry out the planning approval and procurement processes. Femern is also hosting a meeting in Copenhagen on 21 March to provide further information about the project and to lay the groundwork for potential partnerships and joint ventures among the participants.
“The announcement sends out a message that the project is now underway and that pre-qualification and the time for tender invitations is close,” said Femern technical director Steen Lykke. “In other words, it’s now that the international construction companies should pay attention to the upcoming projects. We’re anticipating strong interest from contractors worldwide and especially those from Europe.”
