Nightingale Associates’ Cardiff Studio has been appointed to undertake the feasibility study for Phase Two of the campus. The building, which will house the University’s Sustainable Places Research Institute, has just been granted £6m funding from the Welsh government to be match funded by Cardiff University.

The Maindy Park campus is in central Cardiff and consists of seven phases that will be delivered over the next 15 to 20 years, depending on funding. The new project was announced at the topping-out ceremony for Phase One of the Maindy Park development, the £26m Hadyn Ellis Building that is being built by BAM Construction. This was also designed by Nightingale Associates and is due for completion in spring 2013.

Tim Chell, BAM construction director for South Wales, said of the Hadyn Ellis Building:

“This project is very important to us as it is our first for Cardiff University. It is on programme and progressing very well, we intend this to be the start of a long and successful working partnership with the university.”
