Shepherd Construction opens London office

24 Jan 11 Shepherd Construction is strengthening its national presence with the opening of a new office in London.

The contractor has taken on a 10-year lease on 4,300 sq feet of office space on Pentonville Road near Kings Cross to enable the company to capitalize on the first signs of a recovery in London and to be nearer to customers, business partners and the large number of UK consultants that are based in the capital.

Shepherd’s 30-strong South Division team, headed by managing director Ian Cheung, has relocated from the existing offices in Slough to the new base. Projects currently being handled by the South Division include a £58 million new school project at Holland Park, and a £110 million project to deliver new facilities for the Institute of Animal Health at Pirbright in Surrey.

Richard Vining, Shepherd Construction’s chief executive commented: “Having a base in London makes perfect sense for us to strengthen our operational base and  raise our profile as a national contractor. It also gives us a strong presence in the capital to forge stronger relationships within the construction and property industry whilst maintaining close links with our other operational bases throughout the UK.

“Our current workload will see 35% of our turnover in the south east, and we are already in discussions regarding several other projects in London. We are confident that our experience together with our strength when it comes to understanding what clients and consultants are aiming to achieve with each project, will pay dividends.”

Shepherd Construction has offices in York, Manchester, Leeds, Darlington, St Neots, Birmingham and Liverpool.

The company has recently been awarded several new contracts including a number of student accommodation and residential projects, and a £30 million framework contract to deliver three facilities that will house test rigs for full scale wind and marine prototype devices, on behalf of the National Renewable Energy Centre (Narec), based in Blyth, Northumberland.
