Sika joined the parade of hot air balloons that signalled the start of the world’s largest annual fundraising event on Sunday 17th April.
“We were delighted to be involved in this amazing sporting spectacle and offer our support to the many thousands of runners. It was great to see the Sika hot air balloon flying over London and it certainly added to the excitement and fantastic atmosphere that makes the London Marathon such a popular event all over the world,” said Stephen Hearn, General Manager at Sika Ltd.
Some 2.6 million UK viewers of the live television coverage were greeted with the sight of a multitude of hot air balloons flying over Greenwich Park – the starting point of this extraordinary event. This year, more than 36,000 runners tackled the 26.2 mile course that passes a number of London landmarks before finishing on the Mall alongside St. James’s Palace.
Since starting in 1981, the London Marathon has raised more than £450 million for charity and remains one of the UK’s highest profile and most watched events. Sika was delighted to offer its support to the marathon, helping to raise much-needed funds for a range of great causes, including official charity for 2011 Oxfam.
