Singapore awards £188m in station contracts

31 May 11 Singapore’s Land Transport Authority has awarded two civils contracts with a total value of S$382.81m (£188m) for stations on the Downtown Line Stage 3 (DTL3) project.

Samsung C&T Corporation has won the S$211.35m contract for construction of Expo station and the overrun tunnels. Expo will be an interchange station with the East-West Line Expo station and will serve commuters going to the Singapore Expo, Changi Business Park and the Changi Airport.

The other contract is for construction and completion of Sungei Road station. It has been awarded to a Australian joint venture of Leighton Offshore and John Holland (Singapore Branch) at a value of S$171.46m. It is the companies’ first mass rapid transit contract in Singapore.

Construction of the two stations and tunnels will start next month and are targeted to complete in 2017.

The 21-km long DTL3 is the final stretch of the 42-km Downtown Line. It is fully underground and has 16 stations, including three interchange stations.
