Skip on the hassle of waste removal

24 May 11 Hippowaste, the company behind the big yellow waste bags, has launched a simple time and cost saving alternative to skip hire.

The Hipposkip takes the headache out of bulky site waste removal because it is simple to use, with none of the hassle usually associated with skip hire to keep a site safe, clean and professional.

Suitable for contractors who are responsible for interior refurbishment projects where large amounts of bulky mixed waste is produced, the Hipposkip is designed to deal with cumbersome items such as discarded baths and sanitaryware, radiators, kitchen cupboards and fitted furniture, worktops and flooring.

The Hipposkip can be picked up at the merchant branch or DIY retailer, along with project materials and tools for the next job. Alternatively it can be ordered online with delivery in two days. It is flat-packed so it can be stored in the back of the van without taking up too much space until needed. Once work has started onsite the bag can simply be taken out and filled. It opens to 2.1m x 1.65m and is 1m deep.  With a capacity of 4.5 cubic yards and flexible sides, it will accept more waste than a 4-yard skip. The bag can hold up to 1.5 tonnes, enough for a whole bathroom suite, kitchen rip-out or larger jobs that produce lots of light yet bulky waste.

Whereas a skip must be booked and filled in a dedicated timescale prior to collection, the trade professional can use a Hipposkip for as long as required, filling the bag as work goes on and removing the need to make regular unwanted visits to the local tip. Only once collection has been booked and pre-paid over the phone or internet will the bag be collected, within five days. There is no need to be present when collection takes place so the tradesman is free to move on to the next job.

Access is a key benefit of the Hipposkip, making it very different from a skip.  It provides a solution for sites where it may not be possible to load and unload a typical skip. On the other hand the Hipposkip bag requires just 4m clear road access so that the Hipposkip lorry can carry out collection. Unlike a skip which must be positioned on the road or within very close proximity to the collection vehicle, a Hipposkip can be lifted from as much as 4m away from the public highway, for example from a driveway or over a garden hedge.

“The Hipposkip provides a very simple, easy solution for the trade professional where there are high volumes of waste,” explains Will Jones of Hippowaste “There is none of the headache associated with skip hire and it also does away with the need for repeated trips to the local tip, where recycling costs for tradesmen can rack up. Hippowaste takes responsibility for recycling, with over 80% of the waste in its bags diverted from landfill, with none of this additional cost to the customer. It really is an easy solution: buy the bag, fill it and we take care of the rest.”
