Skycraper proposed for Liverpool waterfront

25 Jan 12 An application for planning permission is expected to be lodged with Liverpool City Council this spring for the tallest building in the north of England.

The 199m high building has been designed by architect Maurice Shapero for a site overlooking Liverpool's waterfront.

Previous attempts to develop the site, where the King Edward pub used to stand, failed after architectural watchdog CABE and Peel Holdings blocked the plans.

The design of the new scheme is meant to conjure up thoughts of shipping containers. Standing 67 storeys high, it would have 22,986m² of apartments, 1,966m² of retail space and 7,744m² of offices, plus a 1,168m² restaurant.

According to reports, the development is being led by Custard Pie Properties, which owns part of the site, with backing from Richmont Properties.
