Spanish cartel faces millions in fines

16 Jan 12 Spains’s competition authority has announced fines for five businesses for their involvement in a concrete, aggregates and mortar cartel.

The Comisión Nacional de la Competencia (CNC) has issued a resolution declaring the existence of a cartel in Northern Spain.

It has resolved that the accused companies – with varying degrees of involvement - adopted an agreement to fix prices and share the market for the products.

The fines are:

  • Cementos Portland Valderribas (CPV): €5,726,431
  • Hormigones Beriain €2,508,758
  • Canteras de Echauri y Tiebas (CETYA): €1,425,299
  • Canteras y Hormigones Vre (VRESA): €959,277
  • Cemex España: €502,283
