Mr Corcoran joined tool hire group Speedy in 1987, rose through the ranks and has been instrumental in the company’s growth.
He said: “This is an exciting and challenging time for CBI North West and I will put all of my energy into making sure that the needs and views of our members are represented across the region and the UK.
“I am passionate about promoting the northwest economy and believe it is vital that we secure more investment for the region.
“The northwest is a hub for industry and creativity, and we need to be playing a bigger role in the recovery of the UK economy. However we can only do this with more private sector investment to replace the public sector losses.”
