The two companies aim to work together in the energy efficiency market.
Nottingham-based EvoEnergy has been trading since 2007 and has a turnover of £30m and 100 employees. It has also diversified into external wall insulation and is exploring other technologies to meet the rising demand for energy conservation and greener energy generation.
Stepnell already has experience of solar power – in 2011 it built 20% of the UK’s capacity in solar parks, it said, building four 5MWp ground mount solar installations.
“This is a fantastic move for our companies,” said EvoEnergy chief executive Dr Kevin Hard. “The innovative and nimble business model of EvoEnergy and the strong financial position of Stepnell will allow us to strengthen our position in photovoltaics and accelerate more quickly into the energy-efficiency market.”

He added: “Stepnell is a great fit for us and I’m looking forward to working together with the team to enhance the company’s renewable energy and energy efficiency service offering.”
Stepnell managing director Mark Wakeford said: “Our two businesses have shared values in trust, quality, customer service and reducing their environmental impact. In EvoEnergy we see a committed staff working well in a part of the construction industry that we believe will be shaping the foreseeable future.
“Combining Stepnell’s expertise in contracting and refurbishment with EvoEnergy’s technical expertise in the green sector will provide real synergy to both companies allowing each to meet the coming challenges that face our customers. We are looking forward to working closely with EvoEnergy and in supporting Kevin and his team in their drive to grow the business.”
