Strabag wins €254m Polish order

10 Jan 12 Two Strabag companies have signed an agreement with Poland’s General Directorate for National Roads to build a 40km section of the S8 expressway.

The €254 million (£209m) contract was signed by HERMANN KIRCHNER Polska and STRABAG Sp. Work is set to begin this month and is expected to last 27 months.

In addition to the construction of the four-lane expressway using concrete technology, the 19km section Walichnowy and Zloczew includes construction under traffic of a junction to the busy national road 45 as well as 16 bridges. Difficult geological conditions require the subsoil to be strengthened with a total of 60,000m of piles and 700,000m³ of geotextiles. The construction works will be carried out by the group subsidiaries Hermann Kirchner Polska, Strabag Sp and Heilit+Woerner Budowlana Sp.

The second section between Zloczew and Sieradz Po,udnie is 19.6km long and will also be built of concrete. The order includes the construction of 18 bridges, the conversion of local and municipal roads, as well as the construction of a rest area. Work is being carried out by a consortium of Strabag Sp and Heilit+Woerner Budowlana Sp.

“The difficult subsoil conditions of this project represent a special challenge: our great experience and our technical know-how in this field afforded us a decisive advantage and allowed us to secure the contract,” said Strabag SE CEO Dr Hans Peter Haselsteiner.
