Sustainability School sets up infrastructure division

25 Feb 15 The Supply Chain Sustainability School has set up a programme dedicated to the infrastructure sector.

Backers of the new initiative include HS2 Ltd and National Grid as well as a host of major contractors.

Supply Chain Sustainability School chair Shaun McCarthy explained: “The Supply Chain School has already delivered an immense step forward for sustainability in the construction sector. Now we want to help consolidate this with a dedicated service for the critical work of the Infrastructure industry, from megaprojects to maintenance, road and rail to utilities.”

Partners in the new infrastructure group include: Balfour Beatty, BAM, Carillion, Galliford Try, Kier, Lafarge Tarmac, Laing O'Rourke, Morgan Sindall, Skanska, Sir Robert McAlpine, Vinci, BRE, CEEQUAL, HS2 and National Grid.

The infrastructure group is chaired by Eamonn Costello, a commercial director at Taylor Woodrow (Vinci). He said: "It is no coincidence that with major infrastructure build programmes on the horizon there is an increasing demand for awareness and training through a readily-available sustainability learning platform. Whilst the school is free to users, partners have invested considerable resource, which not only demonstrates commitment, but the significance of the sustainability message to industry."

The Supply Chain Sustainability School was launched in 2012 to support construction needs for development of a supply chain capable of meeting sustainability aspirations of main contractors and clients. It provides online learning resources and networking opportunities.

Last month it set up a facilities management group.
