Technology injection boosts Morris & Spottiswood productivity by over a third

23 Jun 11 Following a technology injection earlier this year, the maintenance division of Morris & Spottiswood are already seeing productivity boosted by over a third.

The technology involved was a call logging and workflow management system, with all engineers now fully mobile utilising state of the art PDA’s supported by vehicles equipped with a sophisticated tracking system.

Craig Murie, Operations Director of the Maintenance Divisions explains why there is such a large increase in productivity:

“We have a multi-trade mobile reactive workforce of 40 engineers.  Prior to installing this new system, our workforce was completing an average of 3 jobs per engineer each day.  We realised we had hit an efficiency ceiling using the standard combinations of phones, texts, emails and faxes to communicate.

With Aeromark’s fully integrated technology, the whole process speeds up – with the engineers now completing between 4 & 5 jobs per day on average.  The need for daily journeys to a local branch has been removed, which means less time wasted, increased customer availability and less petrol from reduced travel and route optimisation.  As well as the reduction in carbon emissions, we are now moving towards a paperless system, so there’s an environmental saving too.”

Aeromark’s partnership with Orange sees their mobile workforce technology branded as Orange Fleet and Service Link, which is the service now being used effectively by Morris & Spottiswood.  The system is fully integrated with vehicle tracking to provide true visibility and accurate measurement.

“The technology is a smart investment for companies which operate a mobile workforce because it provides instant payback.  It decreases the cost per job and because it automatically generates immediate real time reporting and accurate work record details the whole process from call logging through to invoicing and payment is greatly reduced in time.  The upshot is revenue can be increased without changing headcount and improved cash collection.

“Our team are taking things a step further, looking for additional system enhancements which will help fine tune the performance of aspects unique to Morris & Spottiswood” explained Roger Marks, Managing Director at Aeromark.
