Telehandler topples onto beach huts

27 Jan 11 A telehandler operator escaped without serious injury when his machine toppled over on the seafront at Lyme Regis on Monday (24 January).

He was working for Febrey Structures on the Marine Parade Shelters regeneration scheme and was transferring sheets of shuttering ply to the upper level of the Shelters when the extended boom tipped over. The end of the boom and its load smashed onto three beach huts, damaging a lamppost and seafront railings. No one was hurt.

The police and council officials were on site in minutes and cordoned off the area.

The main contractor notified the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and called in its own health and safety team as well.

A crane was brought in the following day to remove the JCB telehandler.
