Thomson Ecology will be showcasing the commercial value of expert ecological consultation at this year’s Ecobuild.

26 Jan 11 Exhibiting in the Biodiversity Pavilion, Thomson Ecology will be demonstrating its wide expertise and the natural value that consultation with an expert ecology company can bring to a scheme.

Ranging from biodiversity consultation, through to planning and development and the fulfilment of a project with in-house ecological contracting, Thomson Ecology is able to deliver all aspects of a construction project’s biodiviersity requirements.

“The message to developers and their contractors is clear,” explains Nancy Thomson, Managing Director of Thomson Ecology, “Invest in specialist consultation to avoid spiralling ecology costs later in your programme. In this way developers and contractors can keep control over the duration of their project and the cost of their legal ecology obligations.”

Because all construction projects in the UK are governed by a number of important laws there are particular considerations relating to flora, fauna and the overall conservation importance of a site. Wildlife law in the UK is governed in part by international agreements made by the UK to protect sites and species that best represent British wildlife. Some of the resulting regulations are tied to the planning system with the aim of conserving wildlife and enhancing biodiversity whilst encouraging sustainable development.

Without the correct compliance procedures in place there can be serious consequences, both in delays to a project and legal fines.

“Organisations need to consider their reputation too,” says Nancy, “An insensitivity towards nature and protected species can have a negative impact on a company’s brand and reputation.”
