According to local reports, the Ilkley-based construction firm, which employs more than 30 staff, is about to appoint an administrator to wind up the business
Owners, including Leeds-based property business St James Securities Holdings, have decided the business is no longer viable
Roger Quarmby, the founder and chairman of Quarmby Construction, told thebusinessdesk.com: “This is a very sad day for everyone concerned with the company, founded over 40 years ago. There is unfortunately no alternative but to enter administration."
Mr Quarmby, a civil engineer, founded Quarmby Construction in 1972. He then founded St James Securities as a property developer in 1982.
Last summer Quarmby Construction managing director David Jones told the Wharfedale Gazette that the company was having one of the busiest periods in more than 20 years in Leeds, with projects including the restoration and redevelopment of the Grade II-listed Majestic Building, a former dance hall in City Square.
