Turf cut marks start of Scotland’s first “hub” project

21 Jan 11 Morrison Construction, part of the Galliford Try group, has started work on the first project to be built under the Scotland-wide hub initiative in West Edinburgh.

Jim Mather, Enterprise, Minister in the Scottish Government was joined by City of Edinburgh Council Leader, Jenny Dawe, in cutting the first turfs on the site of the eagerly awaited library and community hub, which is being built at Rannoch Terrace, Drumbrae.

The project is part of the hub South East Scotland Limited (hubCo) ten year programme to deliver new community infrastructure in partnership with its local public sector partners. The aim is to deliver the right services, in modern premises, with the right staff to ensure that community facilities are able to meet people’s needs in the future.

Costing £5.7 million the 2.280 sqm community hub will be arranged over two storeys, and incorporate a library, day care centre and adult learning space, as well as offering a wide range of locally-managed council services including Community Safety, Housing, Roads, Councillor and MSP Surgeries, Parenting Support and Youth Engagement.
