Turnover and profits rise at Beard

3 Apr 13 Regional construction company Beard has reported turnover up 17% to £68.7m, against a backdrop of falling construction output in the sector.

Beard, which has offices in Swindon, Oxford and Guildford, also reported an increase in pre-tax profits, up 11% to £1.2m. It increased its workforce by an average of 10% over the year and more than doubled its training provision, providing nearly 400 days of industry-based courses and personal development training.

Managing director Mark Beard said: “We continue to focus on the expertise of our teams, the efficiency of our systems and above all, prompt and faultless delivery to meet our customers’ needs. As a result we have seen an expansion of the healthcare and commercial sectors and continued involvement in high profile projects within education and the ecclesiastical sector.”

He said that he was particularly pleased that 2012 also saw a significant increase in the company’s net assets, which rose by £0.4m to £5.2m with cash funds up £0.9m to £7.3m. “This represents a further strengthening of our underlying finances, reinforcing our position as a solid, reliable partner within the construction industry,” he said. “And more good news is that secured orders of £37m for the coming year show a 9% increase on this time last year.”
